This special edition makes the quickly sold-out monograph available again, presenting a signed first edition of the book alongside two conjoined signed prints handmade by the artist, housed in an embossed buckram slipcase. Limited edition of 50 copies.
This Train presents two interwoven narratives drawn from the road trips across the United States that photographer Justine Kurland undertook with her young child between the years 2005 and 2010. Through arresting large-format photographs of her child and herself and of the winding railways which carve through the American landscape, Kurland constructs an alternative family album deconstructing an entwined set of paradigms with a tenacious grip on contemporary American life: the nuclear family, the open road, the violence of expansion, and the intractable force of the land itself. The book includes new essays by novelist Constance Debré and scholar Lily Cho.
